Managing a budget and balancing a checkbook are important life skills and state lawmakers want to also make them a high school requirement. Lawmakers dealing with the worst budget crisis in state history want to include financial literacy as a class that can count in the math requirements for graduation. Financial literacy teaches everything from careful credit card use to car loans and mortgages, currently it’s an elective, the bill that passed in the House of Representatives Tuesday afternoon would let students include it as one of their four math requirements.
